John McEnroe was defaulted in his opening-round match of the Hall of Fame Champions Cup in Newport, R.I., for unsportsmanlike conduct and official code violations. Having won the first set against MaliVai Washington, McEnroe was trailing 4-2 in the second when he was issued a code violation for an obscenity aimed at the chair umpire. McEnroe was issued two more code violations, which resulted in Washington winning the point, game and set.
